A.C.T. contacted Mark and me about photographing a group of students during a mock class for the purpose of creating promotional photos for their Studio program. One of the requests was to also take everyone’s portrait so they could have a takeaway for volunteering their time. Each portrait sessions lasted about 5 minutes per person, which, as a photographer is a challenge to connect with and capture each individual’s unique personality in a matter of minutes. However, it turned out to be a bit of a magical day – that connection which started the day off then progressed from there as they went through different acting exercises completely trusting us as photographers in what is known to them as a safe space of expression. I spent the weeks that following thinking back to the trust that was given, taken and shared. It will remain one of my favorite shoots of the year.
